Liverpool were in fine fettle at the weekend. The Reds cruised to victory over Norwich City without ever getting out of second gear. Jürgen Klopp’s side delivered a thoroughly professional performance. Garth Crooks has named Alisson Becker in the BBC Team of the Week.
Liverpool beat Norwich City
This weekend was a good one for Kopites.
Not only did Liverpool beat Norwich City but title rivals Manchester City started the season with a defeat against Spurs.
At Carrow Road it was Diogo Jota who opened the scoring, the Portugal star netted midway through the first half, seizing on a half chance opened up by a deft Mo Salah touch.
Roberto Firmino bagged the second following a square ball from Mo.
Then it was the Egyptian King’s turn with Salah curling one in after the ball broke to the edge of the box from a corner.
Garth Crooks on Alisson Becker
In the final five minutes of the game our Brazilian keeper was called into action.
The goalie saved from close range to deny Ben Gibson before palming a loose ball clear.
Garth Crooks was clearly impressed with Alisson, writing for the BBC:
“The Liverpool goalkeeper looks very comfortable between the sticks again. Norwich, on the other hand, looked woefully out of their depth.
Alisson’s save from Teemu Pukki, who seemed to take an age to bring the ball under control, looked routine while his point blank save from Ben Gibson was quite brilliant.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool can always rely on Ali.
The Holy Goalie is the best in the world and we’re lucky to have him.
Thankfully we should have him until at least 2026 due to his recently signed bumper new deal.
We’ll be expecting another clean sheet next weekend.
