Jamie Redknapp has begged Liverpool to sign Leicester City star Youri Tielemans this summer.
The Reds are yet to replace the departed Georginio Wijnaldum in central midfield.
There are only a few weeks left in the transfer window and many are doubting whether the club will re-enter the market.
However, Liverpool’s ex-captain thinks they should, and has earmarked Tielemans as the perfect target.
Speaking to Sky Sports after his former side’s 3-0 win over Norwich City, Redknapp said: “I have always looked at Liverpool buying the best players. I’d go for Tielemans.
“I would try and do everything in my power to get him to the club. He’s a Liverpool type of player.
“Leicester fans are probably saying ‘why would he want to leave?’, but that’s the sort of player that you need to get.
“I didn’t like the look of their midfield in the first half. They’ll need someone else in there that has got that extra quality that Liverpool have always had in midfield.”
Is Redknapp right about Tielemans to Liverpool?
We agree with Redknapp in the sense that we also think that Youri Tielemans is a brilliant player.
As far as out-and-out number 8’s go, he is one of the best in the league and has the potential to get better.
Tielemans is a top player on the ball, but is he athletic enough to be a key man for Jurgen Klopp? We are not quite sure.
The Belgian would cost a fortune, considering Leicester paid £40m for him a few years back.
We think that there are better options out there for a lot cheaper, so we have to disagree with the Sky Sports pundit on this one.
We also have great faith in Naby Keita, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have better games than he did against Norwich.
Tielemans would probably be a success at Anfield, yes, but there are other options out there that simply make more sense.
