Ben Davies is set to join Sheffield United on loan, which has led Liverpool fans to react on Twitter.
The centre-back is set to leave Anfield having never played a competitive game for the club.
He was signed from Preston North End last January in response to the defensive injury crisis that Liverpool were going through.
However, he had a few issues with fitness and adapting to the side, so never played a minute for the team.
While he played a bit in pre-season, Davies has been linked with a move away all summer.
It was thought that Liverpool would look for a sale, rather than a loan. However, it appears that there were a lack of serious offers for the Englishman.
Per Paul Joyce, he is set to complete his loan move to Sheffield United.
We expect the deal to be announced tomorrow, if not late tonight.
Davies never got a chance at Liverpool
It is disappointing to see Davies go out on loan this season.
We would have been happy to see him stay as fifth-choice defender due to his homegrown status.
Yet it looks like Jurgen Klopp simply wasn’t happy enough with his quality.
It is a pity for the player. Moving to Liverpool in January would have been a dream for him, so he will be disappointed that it didn’t work out for him.
It would have been a good story if he came in from the Championship and was successful on Merseyside, but it wasn’t to be.
The fact that it’s a loan deal means that the club will not be making an immediate profit on him.
Yet it could still work out well for Liverpool.
If he has a good season at Bramall Lane, United will probably buy him permanently next summer.
He may have been hoping for a Premier League move, but a recently-relegated side hoping to go right back up could still be a great switch for him.
We certainly hope it works out for him.
What do fans think of Ben Davies exit?
The majority of Liverpool fans have wished Davies well in his departure.
Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter.
I'm pleased he's getting back to playing footy and not being laughed at, he didn't ask for any of this but has dealt with it well. Good luck to him— Steph 🔴⚪ (@lizzleinbrizzle) August 15, 2021
Shame he never had a chance to show what he could do in the first team. Hopefully he'll get a chance to show at utd and progress from there.— Andrew Wilkinson (@wilky130) August 15, 2021
It's a shame we didn't actually see him. Looked decent in pre season alongside matip. Was one of the best defenders in his league before joining Liverpool. Probably would've kept him as 5th choice and sell Phillips— RamboA12 (@RizAhmed98) August 15, 2021
Good for him to get game time— Trevenderson (@Trevski_LFC) August 15, 2021
We signed him for £2.5m. He’ll have a great season on loan and we’ll sell him for £8m. pic.twitter.com/pU0gCA3FPD— Liverpool Red (@lfcredynwa) August 15, 2021
Sheffield getting a better defender than Dias for £1mil 😭😭😭— John Henry's Bank Account (@JohnsBankAcc) August 15, 2021
