"It's a shame": Liverpool fans react to Ben Davies departure

Ben Davies is set to join Sheffield United on loan, which has led Liverpool fans to react on Twitter.

The centre-back is set to leave Anfield having never played a competitive game for the club.

He was signed from Preston North End last January in response to the defensive injury crisis that Liverpool were going through.

However, he had a few issues with fitness and adapting to the side, so never played a minute for the team.

While he played a bit in pre-season, Davies has been linked with a move away all summer.

It was thought that Liverpool would look for a sale, rather than a loan. However, it appears that there were a lack of serious offers for the Englishman.

Per Paul Joyce, he is set to complete his loan move to Sheffield United.

We expect the deal to be announced tomorrow, if not late tonight.

Davies never got a chance at Liverpool

It is disappointing to see Davies go out on loan this season.

We would have been happy to see him stay as fifth-choice defender due to his homegrown status.

Yet it looks like Jurgen Klopp simply wasn’t happy enough with his quality.

It is a pity for the player. Moving to Liverpool in January would have been a dream for him, so he will be disappointed that it didn’t work out for him.

It would have been a good story if he came in from the Championship and was successful on Merseyside, but it wasn’t to be.

The fact that it’s a loan deal means that the club will not be making an immediate profit on him.

Yet it could still work out well for Liverpool.

If he has a good season at Bramall Lane, United will probably buy him permanently next summer.

He may have been hoping for a Premier League move, but a recently-relegated side hoping to go right back up could still be a great switch for him.

We certainly hope it works out for him.
