Harvey Elliott is under real consideration for the England U21 squad, according to reports. The youngster should play a prominent role with Liverpool this season.
This comes from the Daily Mail. They claim new England U21 boss Lee Carsley has eye on Harvey Elliott.
England U21 have two fixtures next month and Carsley wants to debut a fresh new squad. Elliott could well be a part of that as Liverpool prepare to make him a regular Premier League player.
Harvey Elliott for England U21
It’s no great surprise, given how well Elliott played on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season. The teenager assisted 11 times over the Championship season, adding another four goals of his own.
It’s a magnificent record for someone who only turned 18 in April and who was playing his first full senior season. Let alone that it was in a brand new environment and at a midtable club.
We thought Elliott’s efforts were sensational and it’s not too surprising that Liverpool went into pre-season with first-team plans. He’s been brilliant over the friendlies so far, surely putting him into contention for a game on Saturday.
Elliott has comfortably made himself the biggest teenage talent at Liverpool and, quite honestly, possibly the biggest in England. International recognition feels like the right step next month.
He’ll need to prove he’s capable, though, and that means performing when he gets games in August. We’re not entirely sure what the plan is but we expect to see quite a bit of the teenager.
Some decent minutes and promising performances would make Elliott a shoo-in for the England U21 team. And who knows? Perhaps he can have eyes of his own on the senior side before long.
We imagine that’s his goal over the next year or two. The next little while will show us how ready he is.
