Liverpool get their Premier League season underway on Saturday with a trip to Norwich City. The Reds will be looking to get off to a good start with a big gap to bridge to Man City. In a big boost for the side, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk could start v Norwich City.
Centre back injuries
Last season will always be remembered by Liverpool fans for the worst injury crisis the Premier League has ever seen.
The Reds saw the centre of their defence obliterated by injury blow after injury blow.
It all started with the Merseyside Derby in October when Virgil van Dijk had his ACL ruptured due to a reckless piece of play by Jordan Pickford.
The Reds learned a day later that the Dutchman would be out for the season.
Just a couple of weeks later Joe Gomez suffered the same fate.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
The youngster suffered a serious knee injury whilst running in England training, thereafter the season is a blur. Just centre back pairings chopping and changing constantly until somehow we finished third.
Van Dijk and Gomez available for Norwich clash
Ahead of this weekend the boss has been quizzed on his potential lineup.
Jürgen Klopp was asked whether Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez could start against Norwich City, the gaffer told the club’s official site:
“I think so, it looks like [they are available to start]. But how it is with these kind of things, we have nothing to rush in this department.
“We just have to make then a decision on who will start, who will come on, things like this and if I think they are ready for 90 minutes then they are ready to start.
“If I think we have to take them off earlier then it makes no sense because centre-half is not actually a position where you want to change during a game and so we will see.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool starting Virgil van Dijk would be massive for morale.
The Dutchman is a leader at the back and we have missed his passing range.
Seeing him start alongside Ibrahima Konate would be an enticing prospect.
