Liverpool have their path to a sensational summer as reports suggest two summer transfers could happen. The Reds would give everyone reason to celebrate.
Right now, Liverpool’s summer is sort of demoralising – especially in the wake of deals elsewhere. The Reds just haven’t done much.
That isn’t to say they haven’t done anything. Ibrahima Konate arrived from RB Leipzig in a fantastic move. The 22-year-old can be the future of the Reds’ defence if all goes well.
But that’s it. Liverpool haven’t signed anyone else and look set to stick with what they’ve got. And that’s despite some clear problems in the squad.
Gini Wijnaldum’s departure, for instance, leaves a gap in midfield. The Dutchman wasn’t just brilliant for Liverpool – he was reliable. Without him, the Reds lack a senior midfielder they can count on for the entire season.
There are issues upfront, too. Divock Origi just hasn’t provided enough over the last two years, meaning Liverpool only really have four forwards they can trust. Is that enough when compared to their rivals?
One more issue – age. On top of immediate needs in midfield and attack, there are long-term concerns. Both Jordan Henderson and Thiago are 30, while Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino hit that milestone in the next year.
Liverpool lack clear successors.
But perhaps that could all change soon. Maybe Liverpool are merely leaving things late.
Summer transfers to come?
Liverpool are reportedly into for Renato Sanches, according to Fabrizio Romano. He told his Here We Go podcast that fans should keep an eye on that one and that the Reds are battling Barcelona.
There’s real talk that Liverpool want Rennes winger Jeremy Doku, too. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri told The Anfield Talk that the Reds are getting more involved there.
The two deals would apparently cost £34m and £38m respectively. If that turns out to be true, Liverpool will quickly turn around the view of their summer.
Both players are ready to play right now, after all. They can come in as serious options and improve a squad that already hopes to compete for the title.
But on top of that, Sanches (23) and Doku (19) also address concerns about the future. They’d both be around long-term and carry the Reds over into their next era.
Add Konate to that group and Liverpool could end up with a sensational summer here. Three young players, all capable from the get-go and who present a bright future.
We’ll have to wait and see if it happens. If it does, Liverpool deserve the plaudits.
