Liverpool fans were put through hell last season. The Reds headed into the campaign poised to defend their first league title in 30 years. Then an injury crisis ruined everything. The fitness blows have started up again. Some Liverpool fans have reacted to Andy Robertson picking up an injury yesterday.
Liverpool 1-1 Athletic Club Bilbao
Liverpool were back at Anfield in front of fans again yesterday.
Around 40,000 supporters were in attendance to see Virgil van Dijk’s first game back on home soil since last October.
The Reds opened the scoring after just 13 minutes when Diogo Jota rifled home.
Thereafter the hosts dominated although the Spanish side did create a few chances.
Alisson Becker saved well to deny Iñaki Williams whilst the Reds’ counter proved a constant threat.
Eight minutes into the second half the visitors levelled when Berenguer tapped in at the far post, converting a scuffed cross/shot.
Andy Robertson injury
Despite an impressive performance there was a major dampener on the afternoon.
Shortly before halftime Andy Robertson picked up an ankle injury which forced him off.
The Scotland captain hobbled off with Kopites able to take solace in the lack of a need for a stretcher. Speaking after the game Jürgen Klopp said of the issue:
“We obviously don’t know in the moment how serious it is. It was pretty painful and that’s why Andy went off. You probably saw it on the TV pictures better than we did, but he got the ball, the ball on the front of his foot, [and] twisted the ankle.
“The pain settled already, but we cannot say anything further without further assessment tomorrow. He has to get a scan and then we will know more.”
Fans are clearly worried about the situation but some are confident that Kostas Tsimikas has shown enough in pre-season.
