Liverpool haven’t been overly busy in the transfer market this summer. The Reds have only brought the one player in and fans are hoping for further additions. Given the current news, it’s time to remember that football agent Francis Nkwain once said Lionel Messi should sign for Liverpool.

This summer will be remembered for one thing: Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona.
The Argentine legend has been forced out of the Camp Nou due to financial issues with the club.
La Liga have remained firm, no exceptions will be made for Leo.
Barcelona have been reckless, they have overspent and are now in a place where they have to raise significant funds.
Until these issues have been resolved the club will be unable to register new signings Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero.
Lionel Messi should join Liverpool
Now that the legendary forward is a free agent we can start dreaming.
Now is the perfect time to remember football agent Francis Nkwain’s suggestion that Lionel Messi should join Liverpool. Speaking to the ‘On The Whistle’ podcast last year he said:
“[Liverpool] have hit a little sweet spot they can only add to.
“They are the kind of team where, if Messi was to move for one final challenge in a competitive league, Liverpool is that club.”

Look, Liverpool aren’t going to sign Lionel Messi.
We’re well aware of that.
However, we are allowed to dream. We can put our tinfoil hats on and connect dots that aren’t there.
For instance: have Liverpool not spent this summer because the club were waiting for such an opportunity? One hopes.
Either way, Nkwain’s comments highlight that Anfield is a destination for players now, not a stepping stone like it was when Philippe Coutinho was here.
