Liverpool aren’t going to add Houssem Aouar to their summer transfers, according to reports. Two other Premier League clubs might, however.
This comes from Mohamed Bouhafsi. The journalist says both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are chasing transfers for Houssem Aouar but not Liverpool.
Bouhafsi was talking to Fabrizio Romano on Twitch where he claimed Spurs and Arsenal want Aouar. He made no mention of Liverpool – which suggests they’re not in the running here.
And that’s a minor surprise, certainly. We’ve been hearing of the Reds’ interest in Aouar for over a year now, though admittedly on and off.
And why would it? Liverpool have supposedly tracked him for six years now. They’ve long seen his ability and potential.
But it doesn’t sound as though he’s heading to Liverpool, despite what appears to be a massive price-cut. That Le10Sport piece has his price at £17m.
So why aren’t they in the running? Perhaps Aouar’s subpar season put them off. Maybe they can’t offer him a first-team role – which is likely the case.
Or perhaps Liverpool just aren’t going to spend more money this summer. They really might be done.
We think it would be a shame as Aouar could be a very handy addition to the squad. But if Liverpool don’t see it that way, we’ll just have to trust that they’ve got bigger plans in mind.
