Liverpool transfers: Renato Sanches reportedly agrees Barcelona terms

Renato Sanches is ready to join Barcelona, according to reports. It appears this one might be off the table for Liverpool.

This comes from Le10Sport. They claim Barcelona and Renato Sanches have come to an agreement.

The Lille midfielder is ready to join the Catalonians, who have just found far more space in their wage budget than they previously had. That certainly helps get these deals done.

Though one question still remains – can Barcelona find the money to convince Lille into a sale? That’s something the clubs will have to negotiate over the next little while.

Renato Sanches to Barcelona?

This is a blow of sorts to Liverpool. We’ve seen plenty of speculation over the last year that they want Sanches.

The same source had Liverpool down as interested back in December. Fabrizio Romano claimed the same in February. Then journalist Pedro Almeida reported there was interest just last month.

L’Equipe then said the same to kick off August.

Is/was there any truth to it? It’s hard to tell. We do believe Sanches ticks an awful lot of boxes for Liverpool, though.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

He’s got huge potential, is still only 23, and just helped Lille to the Ligue 1 title. Throw in the French financial crisis, as the Athletic explains here, and Sanches looks attainable for a decent price.

Barcelona appear to believe the same, though. They can likely offer him something Liverpool can’t, too – first-team football.

Sanches would be behind Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago in the pecking order. As good as he is and could be, the Portugal midfielder would have to wait his turn.

That might not be the case at Barcelona – though who really knows what’s going on there?

We still hold out a little hope that Liverpool will make a late move for Sanches but it looks unlikely at this point. It seems they’ll have to start focusing on other targets.
