James Milner says he’s known Harvey Elliott was a ‘top talent’ from day one. The Liverpool vice-captain clearly rates the teenager very highly.
Who isn’t excited about Harvey Elliott? The teenager is rapidly becoming one of Liverpool’s top prospects in a long time.
We’ve know he was talented for a while, of course. He made his debut for Fulham when he was very young, while Elliott arrived at Liverpool with a lot of hype.
It was last season, though, that we really saw what the hype was about. Elliott had a fantastic loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in what was his first full senior season.
Now he’s back at Liverpool and impressing in pre-season at 18. Though, his teammates won’t be surprised.
According to James Milner, it’s been clear that Elliott was special from the first time he saw him.
Milner says Elliott is a ‘top talent’
“He’s a top player, I saw it the first time I trained with him,” Milner told Liverpoolfc.com. “You could recognise how good he was, comfortable on the ball, good vision and a dribbler.
“It’s tough for him as well, coming back in after being away last season and getting back to how we play and it’s a different style to how most other teams play.
“He’s a confident lad and he’s got a great mindset so he doesn’t need too much guidance, but hopefully we can help him on his way, all the boys.
“He’s a top talent and I see him making a big impact this year, but any help we can give him obviously helps him settle in and get up to speed.”
It’s big praise from Milner, who has seen an awful lot of young talent get opportunities over the years. Elliott appears to stand out, though, and it’s clear Milner rates him highly.
So it’s wonderful to hear that Milner sees Elliott as someone who can make a big impact this season. The teenager will be a part of the first-team squad – another big step up for him.
And if Milner’s right, this is still just the start.
