Liverpool transfers: Reds 'high on' Canada forward Jonathan David

Liverpool still regard Canada striker Jonathan David as a prime target, according to reports. He’d make the fans’ waiting worth it.

Canadian network TSN have a claim this week. They say that Liverpool like the look of Canada striker Jonathan David.

He’s apparently ‘very high on the list’ as Liverpool eye up potential strikers this summer. The Reds have apparently tracked him for some time.

And that does line up with what’s been said. The Liverpool Echo, for instance, claimed last year that David was a target.

He was on the list with Diogo Jota and Ismaila Sarr. Liverpool signed Jota, of course, and David instead moved to Lille.

Fast forward one year and the youngster has risen his stock. Lille won Ligue 1 last year, with David playing a significant role.

If he truly is the one for Liverpool this summer, we think he’d be worth the wait.

Jonathan David: Canada striker

Liverpool have only made the one signing this summer – Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. Fans are simply waiting to see what comes next.

And there’s a worry that the waiting might be for nothing. The Independent claims Liverpool might be done for the summer, with no more signings.

But David is an opportunity that might just pop up. There is a financial crisis in French football, after all, with Lille affected.

The Athletic detail that here but it could see top teams cash in on their assets. David, then, really might be available.

And if he is, Liverpool should get involved because he’s a very interesting player. David scored 13 times in Ligue 1 last season and that’s after a slow start.

It took him time to get used to things at Lille, with his tallying sitting at two goals by New Year. But once things clicked, David thrived in the side’s title charge.

As we’ve mentioned before, David doesn’t just score goals. He’s a fantastic pressing forward – one of the best in Europe. That’s something Liverpool would absolutely love up top.

Then comes the best part about David: he only turned 21 in January. This is still a very, very young player but one who’s already performing at a great level and delivering trophies.

The Reds could turn him into a superstar with the right coaching. There’s little doubt about that.

If David is the one for Liverpool this summer, he’ll be worth the wait.
