Liverpool are in the need of a midfielder this summer. The Reds also need a forward. Therefore, signing a player who can play a number of roles could make sense. Liverpool should join the race for James Maddison; £60m is a bargain price for the Leicester City star who is also wanted by Arsenal.
Liverpool gaps in midfield and attack
The Reds have two key areas in need of reinforcement: the front three and the centre of the midfield.
Gini Wijnaldum’s departure has left us short of numbers in the middle of park.
Meanwhile the front three is lacking depth. Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri have shown they aren’t up to the task.
Given the lack of funds available it would make sense for the Reds to bring in an attacking midfielder who can fill in on the wing if necessary.
Liverpool should join James Maddison race
This summer has seen Arsenal pursuing Leicester City’s English playmaker.
Liverpool should join the race for James Maddison.
The Guardian has claimed that the Foxes would want around £60m for the playmaker.
Given that Maddison is just 24-years-old and he boasts a wealth of Premier League experience, £60m is a bargain in the current market.
He was a shining light for Leicester last term, Brendan Rodgers’ side could’ve mounted a title challenge if it wasn’t for the playmaker’s injury.
Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, centre midfielder or as an inside forward, the Leicester star has the kind of versatility which appeals to Jürgen Klopp.
Last term he netted eight and assisted five in the league, given his age he is only going to improve.
Therefore he fits the FSG model of signing young players whose value will increase during their time at the club. In addition he would contribute to our homegrown quota.
