Liverpool have plenty of business left to do in the transfer window. We need to offload our fringe stars before serious incomings can be considered. There’s rumours swirling that Kostas Tsimikas could head to Napoli. Liverpool have to move for Nuno Mendes if we sell the Greek defender.
Tough first season for Tsimikas
Last season the Reds were shopping for cover for Andy Robertson.
The Scotland captain had no natural competition or depth behind him in the squad with James Milner filling in occasionally.
Michael Edwards had a bid for Jamal Lewis rejected just days before Liverpool signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos for £11.75m.
In his first campaign the Greek left back managed just six Premier League minutes for the Reds.
However, this can be chalked up to the injury crisis in the middle of the defence. The boss could ill afford rotating his star full backs with his centre backs decimated.
Napoli circling Kostas Tsimikas
Kostas’ first season can be seen as a blip, not his fault at all.
However, this hasn’t stopped speculation around his future.
Corriere Dello Sport has claimed that Napoli could sign Kostas Tsimikas this summer.
The Serie A side are said to be keen on the left back and could offer a loan with obligation to buy deal.
This is because the Italians are allegedly set to miss out on Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea.
Liverpool swoop for Nuno Mendes
If we let the Greek defender go then we have to sign a replacement.
According to Record in Portugal, Liverpool have been watching Nuno Mendes.
The Sporting wonderkid plays as a left wingback for the Portuguese side and is wanted by Europe’s top clubs.
Sporting would allegedly demand around £43m for his signature, an understandable opening stance given that he’s already dominating in Portugal having just turned 19-years-old.
If Liverpool do sell Kostas Tsimikas then we need to bring in a quality backup for Robbo, someone who can push him and eventually succeed him.
Nuno Mendes could be just the man.
Given his age he has plenty of time to learn and improve and by the time Robbo is set to wind down Nuno will be coming into his stride.
However, this would all depend on Michael Edwards using his silver tongue to talk down Sporting.
