Jurgen Klopp has made it clear he wants Florian Neuhaus, according to reports. Liverpool won’t pursue him this summer, however.
This comes from Sport1 in Germany. They claim Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus.
This is effectively a follow-up on a Tweet from Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg. He wrote this week that Neuhaus had been ‘made aware’ of Klopp’s interest in him.
But now Sport1 add some detail to that. First and foremost, they say Klopp has actually had talks with Neuhaus. He made it clear to the midfielder that he wants to sign him for Liverpool.
Yet, it isn’t going to happen. Not this year, anyway.
Liverpool lack the funds to make it happen, apparently, while they also don’t see space in their squad. The result is the Reds not moving for Neuhaus, despite Klopp’s admiration.
Jurgen Klopp wants Florian Neuhaus
As we wrote two days ago, this can make some sense. Liverpool may not see Neuhaus as a first XI player and thus won’t justify a sizeable fee just yet.
That might change in a year but for now, they’re not going to put money on the table. And that seems to be that.
But that’s a dangerous game to play, in our opinion. Bayern Munich are apparently looking to sign Neuhaus next summer, too, and do Liverpool really want to fight them over a German player?
That’s not a fight clubs tend to win.
And if Liverpool do lose that fight, then they won’t get what appears to be Klopp’s first-choice midfielder. So what then? Who replaces Jordan Henderson and Thiago down the line?
But maybe the money truly isn’t there. Though, we’d have to wonder where it is, given the minimal outlay over the last two years.
