Liverpool asked about Dejan Kulusevski, according to reports. The 21-year-old looks ideal for them.
This comes from TuttoJuve, part of the TuttoMercatoWeb network. They claim Liverpool, along with others, want Dejan Kulusevski.
They name both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as potential suitors. All three have asked Juventus if Kulusevski is available this summer.
And the Old Lady said ‘no’. Like Federico Chiesa, the Swede isn’t available for transfer. Juventus want to back him as part of their long-term future.
We can’t blame them for that – Kulusevski looks like a brilliant talent.
You always have to take these rumours with a pinch of salt. What is definitely true, however, is that Kulusevski would be a wonderful signing.
He only turned 21 in April, yet has two impressive Serie A seasons under his belt. 19/20 was a breakout campaign where Kulusevski scored 10 and assisted eight for Parma.
That earned him a place in Juve’s squad last season. His minutes were cut by a third as a result but Kulusevski still managed four goals and three assists.
He produces this from several positions, too. The Swede can play from the right, as an attacking midfielder or as a striker.
Kulusevski is a creative player, too, averaging 1.5 key passes per game. Add in one shot and 1.2 dribbles and it’s clear the forward can make things happen.
What really stands out, though, is Kulusevski being a wonderful pressing player. He ranks in the 85th percentile for wingers/attacking midfielders across Europe’s top leagues, per FBref.
It all fits wonderfully well in what Liverpool want to do going forward. It’s a shame, then, that this is apparently a non-starter.
Maybe an opportunity crops up down the line but Juventus will almost certainly want to build around players like Kulusevski and Chiesa. We can call this one a missed opportunity, then. Liverpool were just too late.
