Liverpool hope to secure a deal for Adama Traore, according to reports. The Reds could have themselves a bargain.
This comes from the Daily Star. They claim Liverpool would like to sign Adama Traore this summer.
Traore could be surprisingly cheap, too. The report mentions a fee of around £30m could pry him from Wolves – far below some of the figures previously reported.
The Times once had Traore’s value at over £100m, for instance. A lot has changed since then.
Football finances effectively tanked in March 2020 and haven’t really recovered. A player like Traore was always likely to suffer a decrease in value on the back of that.
Paying for ‘potential’ just isn’t quite as lucrative now when failure can bite you hard. And Traore, for all of his obvious qualities, is still just potential.
But what really cuts his value down is a poor season. Traore scored two Premier League goals last season and only added another two assists.
Given he just turned 25, there’s no way anyone is paying close to £100m for that.
Could Liverpool strike Adama Traore deal?
The source here isn’t exactly the strongest in the world – the Star don’t exactly get many exclusives on Liverpool transfer business. It is one that makes some sense, though.
Traore would be an experienced squad player available at a decent price. His incredible threat on the break makes him an ideal Liverpool player, too.
We’ve written before that Liverpool could turn him into a top player. But that’s the thing with Traore – there’s work to do.
Liverpool have enough quality forwards that they can probably afford to take that work on, though. There’s no reliance on Traore if he comes in and they can be patient with him.
It seems good to us for £30m. But as we say, we won’t expect anything until it’s reported elsewhere.
