Bayer Leverkusen want Nat Phillips, according to reports. Liverpool have an asking price in mind for the 24-year-old.
This comes from the Athletic. They claim Bayer Leverkusen would like Nat Phillips.
They’ve expressed their interest to Liverpool, too, but aren’t alone in that. West Ham United have done the same, while other clubs supposedly have eyes on the situation.
As for Liverpool’s perspective, they’d like to keep the player. Phillips’ future is in his own hands, however, as the Reds recognised he might like to move on.
Phillips is fifth-choice at centre-back and that’s a poor position to be in at 24. He’ll be moving into his prime years soon and regular first-team football will be on his agenda.
If he can’t get that at Liverpool, he may ask for a transfer. The Reds would accept such a request and want around £15m for him.
Leverkusen ask about Nat Phillips
Leverkusen’s interest makes sense. Phillips spent time on loan with Stuttgart, so he knows German football, while his performance last season suggested he’s a much better player than anyone thought.
We’d be completely find with Phillips being an option for Liverpool, in fact. If he stays, that’s a real bonus as the squad would boast a wealth of options at centre-back.
But we’re confident Phillips could play for a top side and Leverkusen would be just that. They narrowly missed out on Champions League football last season and will hope to correct that in the next.
That would be a real sign of Phillips’ progression over the last 12 months. Absolutely no one saw him as someone capable of performing in a Champions League side back then.
But then he went and did it, as well as playing a key role in Liverpool’s third-place finish. Phillips might be exactly what Leverkusen want, then – and they’re £15m away from getting him.
