Jurgen Klopp appears to have found a way to get both Harvey Elliott and Mohamed Salah in the same Liverpool XI. It could prove a masterstroke.
One of the most interesting parts of this pre-season is Harvey Elliott. Seeing if he’s ready to play a role after his brilliant spell with Blackburn Rovers feels key to Liverpool.
Because if he can, the Reds boast another brilliant squad option next year. Not to mention the fact that Elliott would be well on his way to stardom.
But things have become even more interesting. Elliott has made his name playing from the right but Jurgen Klopp has used him as a centre-midfielder over these first friendlies.
We think that’s a brilliant idea and one that could get the best out of Elliott. It has another benefit, too: it gets him in the side with Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool boast Salah and Elliott
Salah is Liverpool’s best attacking player. 31 goals in a crazy season like last year is an exclamation point to that. And he plays on the right.
And so given Elliott is one of the most talented players coming through, being able to use him with Salah feels important. Playing with such an elite player will only help his development and you’d hate to lose that.

Elliott’s position change gets them in the same team, though, and that could prove a magnificent learning experience. For one, the teenager proved himself to be a fantastic creative player last season, laying on 11 assists for his teammates.
Who better to get on the end of those passes than Salah? The Egyptian’s runs might open even more doors for Elliott.
We love that they’ll play more often together – in fact, they’ll be on the same side. It’s two fantastic, creative, elite talents both on the same flank, with one learning from the other.
Salah and Elliott could end up being a match made in heaven for Liverpool.
