Harry Wilson is now close to joining Fulham, according to reports. He misses Liverpool’s friendly vs Mainz as a result.
Liverpool continued their pre-season on Friday as they took on Mainz in a friendly. Jurgen Klopp named a very strong XI, too, considering the players at his disposal.
One player not available, however, is Harry Wilson as the Welshman will reportedly join Fulham soon. Liverpool don’t want to risk any kind of injury that could jeopardise that.
That’s according to journalist David Lynch. If he’s right, Wilson won’t be a Liverpool player for much longer.
Harry Wilson to Fulham?
No real surprise here. Wilson, now 24, is more than ready to have some stability in his career.
He’s never had a spot at Liverpool, instead leaving for loan after loan at various clubs across England and Wales. It’s not ideal for any player.
In fact, it’s almost certainly hurt his development. Wilson has had to learn a new club and new teammates every single year – that isn’t easy.
A move to Fulham allows him to settle in and finally build his career.
And for the club, selling Wilson makes sense. They’re after funds this summer in order to do more business – selling players they’re not using is the best way to do that.
But it’s a shame. Wilson never got a proper chance with the Reds and that’s really just down to the era he came through in. There’s little doubt that we’d have seen him at Anfield if he’d been around pre-Klopp.
Wilson has been at Liverpool since 2005 and was quickly tipped to have a future at the top. We certainly believed that would be with the club but it just wasn’t to be.
So we wish Wilson all the best if he’s truly off to Fulham this summer. Let’s finally see what he can do.
