Donyell Malen is close to sealing a deal with Borussia Dortmund, according to reports. It appears Liverpool will miss out on this one.
Reports from both Germany and the Netherlands say Borussia Dortmund are close to a deal for Donyell Malen.
“[Dortmund] close to reaching an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for Donyell Malen,” says Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger. “There were targeted talks today. Borussia Dortmund set to pay a (guaranteed) transfer fee of €30m. Only details to be sorted out.
“Malen could be officially a [Dortmund] player at the end of the week.”
That supports a report from Eindhovens Dagblad. They claim a €30m deal (roughly £25m) is very close. All that needs sorting is exactly how it’s paid, as well as payments to agent Mino Raiola.
But they too believe this one could be done before the weekend.
Liverpool to miss out on Donyell Malen deal
Reports have consistently linked Malen with Liverpool all summer. In fact, Rik Elfrink, who wrote that ED article, had their interest down as ‘serious’ just two weeks ago.
And it’s easy to see why. Malen is a 22-year-old striker who just had a wonderful season in the Eredivisie.
He scored 19 goals for PSV, adding another eight assists. Malen is a player with great potential who can already offer plenty as a goalscorer.
He went to Euro 2020 with the Netherlands this summer, playing a few times. It feels as though he’s going to really burst onto another level soon – we hoped that would be at Liverpool.
Instead, Malen likely moves to Dortmund. He’ll replace Jadon Sancho there, who appears ready for Manchester United.
So he’s certainly one to keep an eye on. Players don’t tend to last too long at Dortmund, given the high turnover rate there. Malen should be up for grabs down the line.
It likely won’t be for £25m, however.
