'I'm pretty certain': Journalist addresses talk Liverpool bid for Saul Niguez

Journalist Neil Jones gave his take on Liverpool’s potential bid for Saul Niguez on Friday. The Spaniard is at the heart of much speculation

Neil Jones talked to RedmenTV this week about Saul Niguez and whether Liverpool may have bid for the Atletico Madrid man. It’s a story that’s gone on for some time now.

AS first claimed months ago now that Saul was available this summer for around £34m. That actually prompted us to tip him as a potential signing – but things have sure grown since.

AS moved on to say last month that Saul was an option for Liverpool. Rumours have circulated since, though nothing concrete has come out.

And it sounds as though that will remain the case. Jones was pretty adamant that Liverpool won’t put in an offer for Saul.

“I don’t think that Liverpool have bid,” he told Redmen TV. “I’m pretty certain they haven’t bid.

“I think the more telling part is, I think he’s been offered around. I’m not saying Atletico Madrid are offering him around, because I think [Diego] Simeone’s quotes were pretty much that he wants him to stay.

“I think mainly it’s probably Saul and his people thinking about getting some options.

“Look, I don’t think it’s a goer personally. I’ve spoken to people, I’ve spoken to one person particularly who said there’s no chance of him signing, which is someone I believe, as well.”

No Saul Niguez bid

Jones does sound pretty definitive there. It’s also worth adding that we’ve never seen any solid report from outside of Spain that links Liverpool to Saul.

That’s usually a sign that there’s nothing here – as much as we’d love for it to happen.

But we will say this: Saul remains a player who seems a wonderful fit for Liverpool. If he truly is available, we think they should get involved.

He’s a player Jurgen Klopp could work wonders with and we can’t see Liverpool regretting it.
