Liverpool are going to have to sign a forward this summer. The Reds are in need of depth up top, we also need more serious competition for places. Liverpool have been linked with a move for Pedro Neto. Signing the Wolves forward could see Diogo Jota moved into the number nine role.
Need for competition
At the moment the front line is without quality in depth, without competition.
Diogo Jota was meant to shake things up in that regard but he’s often appeared alongside the trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Furthermore, injuries have reduced the Portugal star’s impact.
Without depth and competition we can see fatigue and complacency set in, tiring players out and making them overconfident.
Liverpool linked with Pedro Neto
Dozens of players have been touted as potential saviours.
According to 90min, Liverpool have contacted Wolves about Pedro Neto.
The Reds have allegedly made enquiries about the player’s availability with a host of clubs interested in the forward.
Neto impressed for Wolves last season, taking on a more important role in the side following Jota’s departure and Raul Jimenez’s injury.
The 21-year-old scored five and assisted six in what was a difficult season for his side.
Diogo Jota shift
According to WhoScored, Neto played in seven different positions last season.
His versatility could prove vital to the Reds as it could free Diogo Jota up to focus on the centre forward role.
The £41m star enjoyed a stellar debut campaign for the Reds but he could benefit from specialising in one role.
Jota’s goal return (he netted one goal per 120 minutes in the league) suggests he could be the solution to our lethal striker problem.
The number nine role could be perfect for Jota, signing Neto could be the push we need to get Diogo into the middle on a permanent basis.
