Declan Rice could leave West Ham United this summer, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly want the England international.
This comes from Simon Johnson of the Athletic. He tweeted on Thursday that Declan Rice could leave West Ham in this transfer window.
In fact, he says the more he hears, the more likely it seems. Though it’s worth mentioning that Chelsea appears to be Rice’s preferred destination.
But that shouldn’t stop hope that Liverpool could sneak in to get him.
Declan Rice to leave West Ham?
A West Ham ‘in the know’ called ExWHUemployee said last month that Liverpool wanted Rice. Now, that’s obviously a fairly unusual source and one most won’t have heard of.
Our sister-site Hammers News believes them to be about as solid a source as you can get, however. We’re willing to trust them on that.
And so if Rice is on the move, we’d expect Liverpool to have a look. We hope they do, in fact, as the 22-year-old could be a fantastic signing.
Rice is still so young but has plenty of Premier League experience, as well as a lengthy Euro 2020 run behind him. There’s an awful lot of room for growth there and we’d back Liverpool to help him reach his potential.
What we really like, though, is Rice’s proven leadership qualities. That makes him a wonderful candidate to replace Jordan Henderson long-term – he might be the best bet there, actually.
There’s only really one major sticking point: the price. The Telegraph claims West Ham could want £100m in order to sell Rice.
However, they also mention that the player hopes his fee could fall as low as £60m. It sounds like he might be getting his way, give Johnson believes a move is becoming more possible.
And at that price, we don’t think Liverpool can do much better.
