Liverpool are believed to be in the market for a midfielder this summer. The departure of Gini Wijnaldum has left a gaping hole in the middle of the park. According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea could battle Liverpool for Saul.

Liverpool bid for Saul
This looks like it could be one of our sagas of the summer.
Mundo Deportivo previously reported that Liverpool had a bid of around £34m for Saul rejected by Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish side are said to be holding out for a figure closer to £43m.
Since then it has been widely reported that Barcelona have stuck their oar in and have offered Antoine Griezmann in exchange for the midfielder.
Chelsea battle Liverpool for Saul
Fabrizio Romano has had his say on the transfer saga.
The Italian journalist has confirmed that both Saul and Antoine Griezmann have given the green light for negotiations about a swap deal.
However, the wages of the Barcelona star are thought to be a real sticking point.
Meanwhile, Romano claims that Saul has ‘proposals’ from English clubs, stating that Liverpool and Chelsea are keeping an eye on the situation.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Saul would be a smart move but it is getting more complicated by the day.
The Reds are in need of a midfielder and the Spaniard is an experienced title winner with 19 international caps.
Despite how good of a candidate he would be, the Reds won’t want to be drawn into a bidding war, our finances are too delicately balanced. If we have to sell to buy we can’t compete with Chelsea on salary.
