Liverpool didn’t have the best of times last season. The Reds struggled due to an injury crisis in the defence. We’ve acted swiftly to solve the problem with an exciting signing. Jürgen Klopp has said Ibrahima Konate will make his debut on Tuesday.
Liverpool centre back situation
Last season Liverpool struggled with injuries at the back.
The Reds sold Dejan Lovren to Zenit and decided against replacing the Croatian.
The decision was thought to be a gamble and it backfired almost immediately.
Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season as early as October following an horrendous collision with Jordan Pickford.
Joe Gomez suffered the same fate just a couple of weeks later.
Meanwhile Joel Matip was in and out of the side until January when he too was ruled out.
Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies were brought in during the winter window to plug the gaps.
The Turkish defender has since left the club and Davies is yet to make an appearance.
Ibrahima Konate debut
Shortly after the end of the season the Reds made a decisive move.
Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig after activating his £36m release clause.
The 22-year-old Frenchman is considered one of the finest centre back prospects in the world.
“Tuesday. He’s had a good rest, had a normal pre-season so far, so yeah, he can play on Tuesday. For Ibou it is important that he gets minutes quickly, that’s what pre-season is for.”
What RTK has to say
We cannot wait to see Ibou in action.
The Frenchman is the future of the Reds’ defence, he could be in the heart of our back four for the next decade.
We’ll give him time, he needs it. It could take weeks or months until he settles in and gets it right but he’ll get there.
