Liverpool are in need of a midfielder this summer. The Reds have been left a man light in the middle of the park and this needs resolving. According to reports in Spain, reported Liverpool target Saul is set for Barcelona. This could open the door for Liverpool to sign Pedri instead.
Liverpool want Pedri
18-years-old and already one of the most promising players on the planet.
Liverpool being linked with Pedri comes as no surprise.
Back in April, The Mirror reported on the Reds’ interest in the Spain midfielder.
Since then we’ve seen Mundo Deportivo, via the Daily Star, repeat these claims.
In The Mirror’s report it was stated that the Reds had made contact with the player’s entourage and that it would take £70m to take him from Barcelona.
Liverpool miss out on Saul to Barcelona
With Gini Wijnaldum now at PSG the Reds have a hole to fill in the middle.
Mundo Deportivo claimed that Liverpool bid £34m for Saul at Atletico Madrid in order to fill that hole.
The bid was rejected with Diego Simeone’s side thought to be after closer to £43m.
Since then COPE in Spain has reported that Saul is set to join Barcelona.
The deal will see Antoine Griezmann go the other way, rejoining the Mattress Makers after a difficult spell with the Catalan club.
Door open for Liverpool and Pedri?
Liverpool could land Pedri as a result of missing out on Saul.
Barcelona bringing in another midfielder could be a sign that they’re readying for a departure.
Furthermore, owing to the financial trouble that the Blaugrana are in them making a signing can’t be easy.
Of course, they’re benefitting from the departure of Griezmann but another body coming in weakens the benefits of having the Frenchman off the books.
Landing Pedri this summer would be a decade defining signing, he’s already one of the best around and he’s only going to get better.
