Liverpool may have just seen their chances at signing Domenico Berardi increase. That’s if a certain journalist is accurate.
Liverpool fancy their chances at signing Domenico Berardi. Corriere della Sera say as much, with the Reds ‘fascinated’ by the Italian.
That’s despite a price-hike, too. Berardi could now command £43m, which is apparently around £18m more than a month ago.
His performances for Italy at Euro 2020 have seemingly persuaded Sassuolo that there’s more to be made. And they’re probably right – Berardi has a good tournament.
As for Liverpool’s perspective, we like the signing in theory. Berardi turns 27 next month, meaning this isn’t a long-term signing, but he’d significantly boost the squad right away.
Liverpool would have Berardi as an attacking option – and a versatile one – to play alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota. That certainly makes them look dangerous.
Berardi bagged 17 goals in Serie A last season, after all. He’s a player who can deliver over a campaign and on the back of his Euro 2020 success, should be ready to move up a level.
There can be little doubt that he’s an upgrade on Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri. Neither have contributed all that much over the last two years and Liverpool will want more from their forward options.
Berardi fits in well, then, as the Reds push for trophies next season. So with that in mind, a new update appears to increase their chances.
Fabrizio Romano claims Sassuolo want to do business with Liverpool. Not necessarily for Berardi, though – they’ve made contact about Marko Grujic.
Manuel Locatelli is heading to Juventus, opening a spot in midfield. Grujic appears to be a good fit for them.
And that hands Liverpool an ‘in’ for Berardi. Sassuolo are not the only ones after Grujic but gauranteeing them a first-option would surely open the door for Berardi.
Not that Porto are the only ones after him. Berliner Kurier says Hertha BSC want Grujic back – competition is quite fierce.
Sassuolo hold that trump card, though. Deal with Liverpool for both Grujic and Berardi and they’ll be comfortably ahead of the others in that race.
For us, it makes complete sense. If Berardi is Liverpool’s first-choice, of course.
