Inter reportedly open to selling Nicolo Barella to Liverpool

Inter are open to selling Nicolo Barella this summer, according to reports. That could interest Liverpool.

This comes from FCInterNews, a subsidiary of Gazzetta Dello Sport. They claim Inter aren’t against selling Nicolo Barella right now.

That’s not because they actually want to sell the player but financial issues mean every player is up for sale. Barella is far down the list of assets they’d want to lose but at the same time, the right offer will get it done.

And that offer could come from Liverpool. The article itself mentions the Reds as potential suitors who have asked already.

Not that they’re alone in that. Most of Europe’s heavyweights would like to sign Barella and there will be fierce competition if he indeed could leave.

But there’s a sticking point. Barella himself doesn’t actually want to leave Inter and would reject any offer. Of course, it’s one thing to say that now and another should his club accept a bid.

And that bid might have to be staggering. The report mentions wanting a nine-figure offer. Given that’s in Euros, we’re talking £80m+.

As things stand, though, it’ll be tough to sign Barella. Inter will give him a new contract if he stays, too, worth around £4m per year.

Inter open to selling Barella

As far as we’re concerned, this is one to go all-out for if there’s even a slight chance. Barella is a brilliant player and one of the few midfielders around who could actually improve Liverpool.

We could actually feel comfortable paying £80m for the player, too. We wouldn’t say that about many available this summer.

Barella is someone we’ve written plenty about, given numerous reports out of Italy over the last year. There is very little doubt in our minds that he’d be a fantastic signing.

But it’s not a realistic one, really. We’re not sure Liverpool have £80m to spend this summer and we’re doubtful again that they’d spend it in midfield.

After all, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago are the first-choice midfield. Would Barella get in immediately? Possibly but it’s not a guarantee. And paying £80m for anything short of ‘guaranteed’ is a little silly.

So we’ll cross our fingers that something could happen, if only because it means Liverpool see Barella as a superstar. But in all likelihood, this isn’t one to get your hopes up over.
