The Liverpool squad is in Austria for their pre-season training camp. The Reds are set to prepare for the upcoming campaign in the idyllic countryside with friendlies scheduled for later this month. In his first diary entry of the stay, Pep Lijnders has told Liverpool academy stars how to catch his eye.
Pre-season schedule
The Reds have headed to Austria after being impressed by the facilities on offer this time last year.
Jürgen Klopp will be running the rule over youngsters and getting his side in shape for the coming campaign.
Pre-season fixtures kick off with two mini games of 30 minutes each with the Reds facing FC Wacker Innsbruck and VfB Stuttgart on the 20th of July.
The Reds will also face Mainz and Hertha Berlin before heading back to Merseyside.
Pep Lijnders on Liverpool academy stars
Pre-season is always a time for precocious young talents to catch the eye.
The likes of Mateusz Musialowski and Kaide Gordon have joined the first team for the training camp.
Writing in his training camp diary, Pep Lijnders offered some advice to the Liverpool academy stars:
“For all the young talents who have come with us, our message is enjoy and keep this “updated” phrase of Bob Paisley in your mind – we search for a player who nutmegs Virgil van Dijk in training but steps politely aside for him in the corridor.”
What RTK has to say
Brilliant.
Pep Lijnders is the Scousest Dutchman around, he looks every inch the successor to Jürgen Klopp.
Hopefully we’ll see Gordon and Musialowski impress enough to warrant some appearances in the cups this season.
They are two of the brightest talents at the club, maybe it’s time to catch a glimpse of them at a higher level.
