Saul Niguez believes he’d be a good fit in the Premier League, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly want the midfielder.
AS claim Saul Niguez sees himself as suiting the Premier League. He thinks there’s a stylistic fit there and that could be particularly important right now.
As that report says, Saul could leave Atletico Madrid this summer. He’s played over 300 times for the club but found his minutes reduced last season.
He fancies a change as a result and that will likely interest many top clubs. After all, Saul is proven at the top level and could apparently go for around £34m.
Saul Niguez to the Premier League?
We wholeheartedly agree that Saul would fit English football nicely. It’s a league that thrives on versatility, asking you to play possession and counter-attacking football game to game.
It’s also a league that asks players to run hard for 90 minutes. These are all traits Saul has built his career on.
He’s a tremendously versatile player who can operate in just about any midfield role. But while we think Saul would be a good fit for the Premier League, we think he’s even better for Liverpool, in particular.
We’ve been banging that drum since March when it was first reported he might leave Atletico. With Gini Wijnaldum having left, Saul is about as good a replacement as Liverpool can dream of.
Wijnaldum operated in that left-hand spot in Liverpool’s midfield three. Saul, as a left-footed midfielder, fills that nicely.
But his ability to also drift wide and also play box-to-box is exactly what Jurgen Klopp likes in his system. Saul can press well, cover the full-back, and play a disciplined game. He’s also got the ability to move forward and play with the ball.
Liverpool have built their midfield on players who can do a bit of everything. Saul embodies that. Yes, he’d fit the Premier League but it’s his fit with the Reds that truly excites us here.
