Journalist explains the one reason Liverpool would sign Renato Sanches

There’s only one way Liverpool sign Renato Sanches, according to Neil Jones. The Reds aren’t entirely sold on this one, it seems.

Goal’s Neil Jones recently talked to Redmen TV about Renato Sanches and whether Liverpool could sign the player. There have been plenty of links suggesting they might, after all.

Journalist Pedro Almeida claimed last week that Liverpool were close to getting it done. He then doubled down on that.

But reports go back further than that. Le10Sport claimed Liverpool wanted Sanches in December, with Fabrizio Romano backing that up in February.

The strongest links in the world? No, not really. But enough that speculation has continued to grow. Jones, though, believes there’s only one way this is happening.

“I don’t personally think Liverpool will sign him this summer unless of course, the deal becomes one of those ones that you think is too good to turn down,” he told Redmen TV.

“I’ve spoken to people at Liverpool who say well, really, the costs associated with it, the idea that they’d buy him to not start for Liverpool just doesn’t sort of fit and it doesn’t make sense on a few levels.”

Liverpool to sign Renato Sanches

We’d agree with Jones’s estimation there – Liverpool would want a really good deal before making this one happen. Sanches wouldn’t be in their first-choice XI and it’s debatable whether they should spend lots of money on such a player.

But we think there’s a good chance that a really good deal happens.

French football is going through something of a financial crisis, as the Athletic explains here. That’s enough to get Lille to the table and, potentially, secure a bargain.

We think Sanches is a fantastic player and one Liverpool could work wonders with. It makes complete sense to see if that bargain deal is there because if the Reds get lucky, they could grab themselves a world-class player in the making.
