Liverpool need to sign a midfielder this summer. Gini Wijnaldum’s departure has left a gaping hole in the middle of the park and this hole needs filling immediately. Atletico Madrid are reportedly open to selling Saul to Liverpool with a fee of £35m mooted. We’ve put together three reasons why he’d be a fantastic buy:

Injury record
One of the key attributes we’ll miss when Gini Wijnaldum goes is his perpetual availability.
Last season there wasn’t many players we could rely on to be fighting fit every week but Gini always was.
We need to sign someone as readily available as the Dutchman.
According to Transfermarkt, Saul Niguez has only missed 17 games due to injury in the past eight years.
That is a remarkable record for a regular starter in a top flight side.
Versatility
Jürgen Klopp likes to work with a small squad and as a result versatility is key for the German boss.
Saul Niguez has played in seven different positions during his career according to Transfermarkt.
Although he’s often deployed in centre midfield he can sit in front of behind the midfield or on either wing, he’s also filled in at centre back.
Title winning experience
There’s no underestimating a winning attitude.
Saul Niguez would arrive at Liverpool hot on the heels of winning the Spanish La Liga.
He also has vast experience in the Champions League, he even scored against Liverpool in a knockout tie recently.
Bringing a player with experience at the highest level will be vitally important as it minimises any bedding in period and lessens the doubt that a player is capable of starring for a side as big as Liverpool.
