Liverpool have made contact with Inter Milan about the possibility of signing midfielder Nicolo Barella.
According to Calcio Mercato, Inter need to sell more players despite Achraf Hakimi’s departure to PSG.
Liverpool are said to have enquired about the availability of Barella.
According to Enrico Camelio, Liverpool “asked for information” about the 24-year-old.
They were told that the Italian was not for sale.
However, this may change if Inter cannot sell some of their other assets.
RTK view: Barella worth whatever Liverpool can spend
This news confirms that Liverpool do want to sign Barella if possible.
While the Serie A winners said that Barella was not for sale, Inter’s financial struggles might mean that a decision is taken out of their hands.
Along with Hakimi, they will hope that they can make money from selling deadweight, rather than their key players.
However, if they cannot shift these fringe stars, they are going to have to consider the possibility of losing one of their best men.
Nicolo Barella would be absolutely perfect for Liverpool.
He was one of the best midfielders in Europe last season. This form has continued at Euro 2020.
He works incredibly hard but has the talent to go with it.
As far as Gini Wijnladum replacements go, they cannot get much better than Barella.
Having been signed from Cagliari for €45m (£39m), according to Calcio Mercato just two seasons ago, he will be pricey.
We know that Liverpool don’t have much to spend. But we also know that the club will spend the big bucks on someone if they want them badly enough.
So, Inter’s desperation may be Liverpool’s advantage.
