Arsenal have made a bid for Manuel Locatelli, so Liverpool should move now to snap him up.
News of an Arsenal bid comes as quite a shock. While there was talk of interest from Juventus and some English clubs, we expected these teams to be some of those higher up the table.
Liverpool for example.
However, Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali told Sky Italia that they are yet to present a serious offer, while Arsenal are the only ones that have.
He said: “The first thing is to leave the boy calm, I have not spoken with him or with his agents, because the national team is important to us.
“Juventus are the only Italian team we talked to about Locatelli. Last week we met Cherubini, we haven’t talked about figures yet but we will meet again shortly.
“There are other teams interested in Manuel, Arsenal is one of them and perhaps they are the one that is further ahead because they have made us an important proposal.
“Indeed, up to now it is the only company that has submitted a concrete offer.”
Liverpool is a more attractive option than Arsenal for Locatelli
Liverpool would be sensible to follow Arsenal’s lead and make a concrete offer for Locatelli.
He is absolutely perfect for a Jurgen Klopp midfield.
The 23-year-old showed that he can play as a defence-minded midfielder at Sassuolo, while he has shown for Italy at Euro 2020 that he can do the attacking side brilliantly as well.
Considering his age and relatively low price tag, he could not be more ideal as a Gini Wijnaldum replacement.
The club simply has to have some form of interest.
We do not believe that he will sign for Arsenal. The facts are that much bigger clubs will be in for him, especially after his recent Italy performances.
Ok, his preference may be Juventus. But Michael Edwards and co. must give him something to think about by making an offer.
