Liverpool fans are expecting a forward or two to be signed this summer. The Reds need reinforcements up top after a torrid season in front of goal. Watching Sweden v Ukraine, some Liverpool fans begged for Emil Forsberg to sign.
Sweden 1-2 Ukraine
Yesterday saw two round of 16 ties played out.
England took on Germany at Wembley and beat Joachim Low’s side in historic fashion.
Goals from Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling secured a 2-0 win for the Three Lions.
Later in the evening Gareth Southgate’s side learned their opponents for the quarter finals.
Ukraine took the lead against Sweden through Alexander Zinchenko’s drilled effort.
Emil Forsberg equalised from outside the area and the game produced plenty of chances thereafter.
Forsberg went on to hit the woodwork twice in the same half, the post and the crossbar denying him to superlative goals.
Swedish hearts were broken in the final minute of extra time when Artem Dovbyk headed home the winner for Ukraine.
Liverpool and Emil Forsberg
Back in 2017 The Mirror claimed that Liverpool were targeting Emil Forsberg.
The outlet claimed the Reds were weighing up a £20m swoop for the Swedish forward.
The RB Leipzig man would suit Jürgen Klopp due to his versatility.
For instance he can play anywhere from centre midfield to centre forward.
The Bundesliga man shone at Euro 2020, netting four goals in four appearances before being eliminated by Ukraine.
However, a move wouldn’t make much sense given that the forward is now 29-years-old and the Reds prefer signing younger players.
