Sassuolo have reportedly set a price for forward Domenico Berardi, with Liverpool seemingly interested in signing him this summer.
That is according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that the Serie A side will demand €40m (£34m) for his services.
The report (via Football Italia) states that Liverpool, Milan, Lazio and Leicester City are interested in signing him.
Berardi is currently starring for Italy at Euro 2020.
He has started three of their four games thus far, only missing the final group game after the Azzurri’s qualification for the knockout rounds was secure.
He has one assist thus far.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are likely to be on the lookout for some new attackers this summer.
It is little surprise to see them linked to a player that has been in flying form in recent years.
RTK verdict: Berardi a fantastic option for Liverpool but perhaps too expensive
There are many aspects of his game that make him perfect for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
He can do it all, with 17 goals and seven assists in 30 Serie A matches last campaign.
He works incredibly hard, averaging over 2.5 tackles and interceptions per 90 in the last two seasons.
This would make him perfect for Liverpool’s gegenpressing style.
As a left-footed winger that cuts in off the right, he would be the perfect competition for Mohamed Salah.
However, we would recommend that Liverpool go for someone slightly younger. Berardi turns 27 in August.
Would he really be happy coming to Anfield to play second-fiddle to the undroppable Salah during his prime years?
We aren’t so sure.
For £34m, Liverpool could target someone younger with a higher ceiling than Berardi. They would be happy to deputise for Salah before replacing him in a few years time.
In RTK’s opinion, this makes more sense than going for Berardi, although his talent is not in question.
If he was going for around £20m, then he would make the perfect Xherdan Shaiqir replacement.
However, these reports suggest that that will not be the case.
