Liverpool are expected to sign a midfielder this summer. The Reds are down a key figure in the middle following the departure of Gini Wijnaldum. Michael Edwards may turn to Spain for a replacement. A report has claimed Liverpool are interested in Saul Niguez at Atletico Madrid.
Gini Wijnaldum exit
This summer sees the end of Gini Wijnaldum’s five year stay at Anfield.
The Dutchman arrived from Newcastle United as an advanced midfielder with an eye for goal.
His role became more nuanced and vital under Jürgen Klopp.
The Netherlands international became a box-to-box dynamo, a ball winner who didn’t lose possession once he gained it.
Most importantly he was always available, Gini barely missed a Premier League game during his time at Liverpool.
Liverpool want Saul Niguez
This summer the Reds have been linked with dozens of midfielders.
This week has seen yet another name crop up in the gossip columns.
AS in Spain has claimed Liverpool are monitoring Saul Niguez at Atletico Madrid.
The versatile midfielder has fallen out of favour of late and could be moved on this summer as a result.
According to the report Saul could be available for just £35m with Manchester United also interested in the middle man.
It is understandable why Jürgen Klopp would be interested in the Spaniard.
He can fulfil a number of roles within the side and he would bring the combative nature we’re set to lose with Gini’s departure.
Twitter reacts to rumour
Kopites are divided. Some want him, others are unconvinced and others are tired of a new midfielder being linked every day.
