Signing Kylian Mbappe would just about be worth selling Mohamed Salah. Liverpool could find themselves with a tough decision to make.
Marca claims Liverpool want Kylian Mbappe. They’ve made the first move, in fact, as they’ve actually enquired to Paris Saint-Germain about what it would take.
There are more issues to consider, however. Firstly, can Liverpool actually afford it? Yes, Mbappe only has one year left on his deal but it doesn’t seem PSG plan on selling.
He’ll still cost a fortune and it’s hard to believe Liverpool can make that happen. They’d have to sell players, certainly, and in all likelihood, make a huge sacrifice.
Mohamed Salah for Mbappe?
Liverpool don’t actually have many players worth massive amounts. That’s the result of having a side full of players in and around 30 years old.

What they do have, though, is a world-class forward in Mohamed Salah and we imagine he’d be the sacrifice for Mbappe. Le Parisien reported earlier in the year that PSG themselves like the Egyptian, in fact.
Salah is worth a fortune, relatively easy to move on, and plays in a forward position. The latter is particularly important as his sale would free up necessary space for Mbappe.
But it’s hard to put into words just how big a sacrifice that would be. Salah has been an absolute revelation for Liverpool and their recent success is as much down to him as anyone else.
Even last season, with all the chaos and disappointment, Salah somehow competed for the Golden Boot. He was a rare bright spot and deserves a ton of praise.
Salah is a Liverpool icon and a club legend. Yet, sacrificing him for Mbappe likely makes sense.
Mbappe is the rarest of rare – an elite player who will actually get better. He’s someone who could come in and lead a title charge immediately, yet still be a far more complete player in a few years.
It’s incredible how good he is at 22. We haven’t seen anyone like it since arguably Lionel Messi. Liverpool have never signed a player like that – very few have.
Now, we wouldn’t expect Mbappe to stick around for 10 years. In fact, he probably wouldn’t see out a five-year contract before wanting to move on.
So if Liverpool can find the cash and convince him to join, Mbappe is someone who will definitely cost more in a few years. There’s a simple but large profit here.
The sacrifice would be a 29-year-old Salah who will soon begin his decline. As heart-breaking as it would be, it’s probably one worth making.
