Liverpool can use Alexander Isak as insurance against Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. This comes after new reports around the Swede’s future.
It appears Alexander Isak will stay put for another year. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano for the Don Robbie YouTube channel.
“I am told that Real Sociedad want to keep him this summer and sell him in 2022 because they’re convinced he can show some skills and add to his value in one year,” said Romano.
“It won’t be easy because some clubs are interested, but it will be for over €50m or €60m.”
It seems all three must wait, then – and that sets up a very interesting 2022.
Isak vs Mbappe vs Haaland
Isak wouldn’t be the only highly-rated young striker moving in 2022. Kylian Mbappe’s contract expires then, of course, and Erling Haaland could be on the move.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says they’ll hang onto him for another year, per the Metro, when a release clause becomes available.
This promises to be quite the fight, then. Three very exciting young strikers who could promise years of success. Isak is undoubtedly the third-best here but he does offer wonderful insurance for any club missing out on the other two.
It’s very possible Liverpool sign none of these strikers, of course. But in Isak, they get a clear target if they can’t pull of either Mbappe or Haaland.
Not only that, but competition for the Swede would lessen if clubs have moved for either of the other two.
Liverpool should absolutely prioritise Mbappe or Haaland if they believe they’ve got a chance. Those two are a level above everyone else right now.
But if they ended up with Isak? We’d hardly complain. The 21-year-old still has all the necessary talent to become a star.
