Liverpool are heading for a complicated summer transfer window. The Reds have plenty of work to do ahead of next season. Jürgen Klopp needs funds to rebuild key areas, funds which will come from player sales. Liverpool are reportedly open to selling Neco Williams this summer.
Why does Neco Williams want to leave?
The Athletic has reported that Liverpool expect Neco Williams to push for a move this summer.
The 20-year-old is said to be looking for first team football.
Williams has made 25 appearances in all competitions in the past two seasons.
However, he’s well aware that he won’t be ousting Trent Alexander-Arnold from the starting berth anytime soon.
As a result the promising young full back will push for a transfer away in order to secure more regular first team minutes.
Liverpool open to Neco Williams sale
The report claims that Liverpool will reluctantly let Neco Williams have his move away.
However, the club will demand £10m from any potential buyer.
Leeds United, Southampton, Aston Villa and Burnley are all named as potential destinations with the quartet having expressed interest in the past.
The Athletic has stated that the Reds won’t sign a replacement with Joe Gomez seen as providing sufficient cover whilst Conor Bradley will also have to step up if needed.
17-year-old Bradley has been impressing for the U23s of late, he has even made his debut for Northern Ireland.
What RTK has to say
Selling Neco Williams seems sad but inevitable.
There was no way that he’d want to spend his career waiting for Trent to pick up a knock here and there.
However, not signing a replacement is worrying.
Joe Gomez is a talented full back but he doesn’t offer much offensively.
Furthermore, we had this line when Fabinho was deemed centre back cover last summer and look how that turned out.
