Liverpool are expected to sell a host of players this summer. The Reds need to raise funds for much needed signings and this money will come from cashing in on fringe players in the side. According to Didi Hamann Liverpool would make a big loss if they sold Naby Keita this summer.
Naby Keita at Liverpool
In the summer of 2017 the Reds agreed a deal to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.
The Reds paid the Guinean midfielder’s release clause plus a premium to bring the Bundesliga star to Anfield the following summer. All in all the deal cost around £52.75m.
Since joining Liverpool the 26-year-old has struggled for fitness.
In his most prolific season he started 16 Premier League games, last term he managed just seven starts and three sub appearances.
Didi Hamann on Naby Keita
One former Red has questioned the Guinean’s future at Anfield.
Didi Hamann has discussed Naby Keita with The Athletic:
“It’s been three years now and you have to say he’s struggled to make his mark…
“I just don’t really see where he fits into this Liverpool team going forward.
“You’d be lucky to get more than £15 million for him. Sometimes you just have to accept something hasn’t worked out and move on.”
What RTK has to say
If Liverpool sold Naby Keita for £15m it would amount to a loss of around £37.75m.
That would be a catastrophic bit of PR for the typically infallible Reds’ recruitment team.
Jürgen Klopp has given Naby chance after chance. If he could stay fit for a whole season we’d see the best of him, alas he just can’t get a run of games under his belt.
Maybe it’s time to cut our losses.
