Sweden star Alexander Isak put in another man of the match performance at Euro 2020 today, which has excited many Liverpool fans.
The Reds are in need of a young striker with world-class potential.
A superb season at Real Sociedad as well as a pair of excellent Euro 2020 showings have seen Isak jump to the top of the shortlist for many Kopites.
Sweden 1-0 Slovakia
Sweden took on Slovakia in the 2pm kick-off at Euro 2020 today.
A win for Slovakia would have seen them secure a place in the knockout round after they bested Poland in their opening match.
Sweden picked up a point against Spain in their first Group E fixture. Anything less than a win would have seen them under severe pressure when they take on Poland next week.
What followed was a rather dull affair.
The first half passed by without much incident. Both defences were certainly on top.
The second half brought more chances, but it took until the 77th minute for the deadlock to be broken.
Emil Forsberg of RB Leipzig scored from the spot for Sweden after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka brought down Robin Quaison.
While the football was not all that exciting, Alexander Isak ensured that viewers had some entertainment.
No goal but Isak still outstanding
Many were keen to watch 21-year-old Isak after his good performance against Spain.
He replicated his showing against Slovakia. Despite failing to find the net, Isak was the best player on the pitch.
He had the most shots (five), most dribbles (six) and joint-most big chances created (one).
Every time the ball was at his feet, Slovakia were on edge.
His pace and size were threatening enough alone, but he proved that his technical ability is fantastic too on a few occasions.
Isak almost scored the goal of the tournament in the second half after an unbelievable run ended up with Dubravka saving a low driven effort.
The penalty came after he played a delightful chipped pass over the top of the Slovakian defence.
The Swede has been tipped for superstardom ever since he made his AIK debut in the Allsvenskan at just 16.
His move to Borussia Dortmund didn’t work out, but he is showing in La Liga and at Euro 2020 that he is still a top prospect.
Liverpool’s transfer committee will certainly have had a look at him.
If he continues to impress, he may overtake the likes of Donyell Malen and jump to the top of the shortlist.
Liverpool fans want Isak signed
Isak was the talk of Twitter after his display.
His insane dribble in particular got people talking, including many excited Liverpool fans.
