Patson Daka looks likely to join Leicester City this summer, despite being strongly linked to Liverpool in recent months.
The Telegraph reported that the Foxes were set to step up their interest in the Red Bull Salzburg striker.
They seemingly were very interested in sealing a deal to sign him for £30m.
Fabrizio Romano has now come out and said that Leicester have submitted an official bid for Daka.
They are close to completing a deal, despite having opened talks with Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard earlier in the window.
Daka scored 27 goals in just 28 league games last season.
This form saw him linked to Liverpool by the likes of Salzburger Nachrichten.
However, it now looks like he will be lining up against the Reds next season, rather than for them.
Daka an excellent signing for Leicester
Liverpool certainly need to sign a striker this summer.
Daka’s goal record and the Reds’ tendency to target Red Bull players made him an obvious target for the club.
It remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp and co. will challenge Brendan Rodgers’ side for the player.
Leicester are certainly at the top of the queue at the moment.
They need to sign someone to replace Jamie Vardy, who is now 34-years-old.
At just 22, there is no telling how far Daka can go. If his club’s record of producing top talent continues, he will likely go to the very, very top.
Salzburg have produced the likes of Sadio Mane and Erling Haaland.
If Daka manages even half of his goal and assist-per 90 numbers of last campaign in the Premier League in 2021/22, he will be well worth the £30m.
Rodgers is building a superb young side. It looks like the Zambian will be the latest addition to it.
