Jude Bellingham picks Steven Gerrard as ultimate shirt-swap

Jude Bellingham says Steven Gerrard is his ultimate England shirt-swap. Though, he does admit it’s a close call.

Judge Bellingham clearly respects Steven Gerrard. He showed that in a recent video for the FA’s YouTube channel.

Bellingham did a Q&A with fans and an interesting one came up: if you could swap shirts with any England player past or present, who would it be?

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder was quick to answer – but he did end up giving it a little more thought.

“Stevie G – easily, to be fair,” said Bellingham. “In fact, no it’s not easy. I think him or [Wayne] Rooney.

“Definitely close but I think them two by quite a way.

“I think I’d go Gerrard, though. Just because, you know, the no.8, similar position to me. So yeah, I’d probably go with him.”

This isn’t the first time Bellingham has shown some admiration for Gerrard. Only a few months ago, he highlighted a video of the former Reds captain on Twitter.

Bellingham is clearly a fan of Gerrard’s – and perhaps that can count for something someday.

Liverpool want Bellingham

Eurosport claimed a little while back that Liverpool were looking at Bellingham. Not that it’s a surprise to anyone.

The teenager has exploded at Dortmund, quickly proving himself to be international standard. There really doesn’t seem to be any limit to his potential right now – he’s an elite talent.

It’s only natural that Liverpool have an eye or two on things, then. They’ll want to be in position when he becomes available. And unfortunately from a Dortmund point of view, their players always do.

It looks as though the Reds will miss out on Jadon Sancho from there. He appears destined for Manchester United, which is really quite gutting.

Bellingham will surely follow in his footsteps back to England one day, though. We can’t imagine that’s in the next year or two unless the youngster hits incredible heights in that time.

But eventually, he’ll be on the market. Maybe his admiration for Gerrard can play a part? Liverpool can effectively guarantee him that no.8 shirt down the line.

We’ll certainly be crossing our fingers that that’s the case. Bellingham is a rare talent and one we’d love to see at Liverpool one day.
