Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

This summer marks Scotland’s first appearance at a major men’s finals in 23 years.

Their return to elite competition got off to a poor start with defeat at Hampden Park.

The Blues had the better of the chances in the game yet they were beaten 2-0 by the Czech Republic.

In the first half Patrik Schick rose well to head past a helpless David Marshall shortly before the whistle.

The second half saw the Czech striker double his tally on the 52nd minute, curling one in from the halfway line with the Scotland goalkeeper well out of position.

Despite creating numerous chances throughout the game the hosts were unable to convert with Lyndon Dykes particularly wasteful.

Darren Fletcher on Andy Robertson

The Scotland captain earned a 7.69 WhoScored rating despite his side’s 2-0 defeat.

Andy Robbo was in fine form, his crossing was exceptional and his passing was dangerous, he made 15 crosses and six key passes.

After the game Darren Fletcher praised Andy Robertson, telling BBC One:

“Andy Robertson is a world class left-back and he showed that here today.

“A captain’s performance, drove the team on. He does it for Liverpool, he does it for Scotland. He’s fantastic.

“But he won’t be thinking ‘I’ve played well today’.

“His team lost 2-0 and he was captain – that’s all he will be thinking about.”

What RTK has to say

It is a shame that Andy Robertson’s teammates weren’t able to finish their chances.

The Scotland captain was outstanding throughout the game against the Czech Republic.

Hopefully the Reds star can gee his teammates up for a rally against England later this week.
