Liverpool fans must be getting restless. The Reds have plenty of business to be done this summer. A striker and a midfielder are needed urgently. The question is: when will Liverpool make their summer signings?
Liverpool transfer priorities
Last season saw the Reds’ back line devastated by injuries.
Jürgen Klopp lost every single senior centre back to injury.
Therefore, Liverpool signing a centre back was priority.
Thankfully, the Reds got their business done early in that regard with Ibrahima Konate joining from RB Leipzig.
Gini Wijnaldum’s departure has left a hole in the Reds’ midfield which will need filling.
The Dutchman was perpetually available for Jürgen Klopp during his five year stint at Anfield, we need to sign a successor.
Finally, a striker is needed desperately.
The Reds have been lacklustre in front of goal since January. The front three are lacking a natural finisher, a lethal forward to mop up the half chances which are going begging.
When Liverpool will make summer signings
FSG have used a sell to buy budget at Anfield in recent seasons.
The American owners have kept the club’s net spend well down and Michael Edwards has been key to that.
We expect the same this summer with the Red funding purchases through sales.
As a result, Liverpool are likely to make their summer signings after the Euros.
This is because some of our fringe stars are competing in the tournament and we can’t cash in on them until the competition is over.
For instance Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri have been tipped for the exit door.
Whilst the club are unclear on how much money they’ll raise from player sales they won’t be out spending.
Furthermore, key targets could be competing at the Euros themselves, meaning the club can’t tie them down for contract talks or a medical.
