Opinion: Florian Neuhaus transfer would be a statement to all of Europe

Liverpool want Florian Neuhaus in the transfer window, according to reports. It’s a deal that would be a statement to all of Europe.

AS claims Liverpool will likely complete a transfer for Florian Neuhaus this summer. That’s despite some fierce competition.

The report mentions Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester City as holding interest in the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder. Liverpool, though, appear to be on top.

A deal could cost around £34m, say AS, and the Reds see him as a top target. It’s all set up for Liverpool to make a real statement.

Liverpool eye Florian Neuhaus transfer

Liverpool need a statement this summer. Last season was something of a disaster and certainly a major disappointment after the previous two campaigns.

The Reds had established themselves as one of Europe’s premier clubs, only to fail in their quest to deliver more trophies last season. Injuries were the biggest reason for that, of course, but the club still slipped from its standing.

On top of that, Liverpool lost Gini Wijnaldum this summer. He’s been a key figure in their success and losing him isn’t a great look. It certainly leaves a gap in the squad.

But Liverpool can turn everything around with the right replacement. A signing that shows they’re still competing at the very top, despite their slip-up of a season.

Neuhaus would be that signing. He’s very highly-rated with a lot of eyes on him – especially as part of the Germany side at Euro 2020. Taking him to Anfield would be a statement of intent and one that reminds everyone that Liverpool can still sign the players they want.

Neuhaus would ease fears that the team will feel Wijnaldum’s loss, too. That’s something other teams will hope for – that Liverpool aren’t quite the same side without the Dutchman.

The transfer would also signal a win over another European giant – Bayern. AS are far from the only outlet reporting their interest.

Bild went as far as saying there’s an agreement between the two parties for a move next summer. Neuhaus later denied that, of course, but there are very strong rumours of Bayern’s interest.

Liverpool swooping in and signing him from right under their noses is a sign that they’re not messing around. Last season was a one-off and the Reds will continue to operate the way they want to.

They’re certainly not stepping away from their perch.
