Liverpool are in desperate need of a striker. The Reds have been woeful in front of goal in recent months and a new forward arriving has become a priority as a result. According to reports in Spain, Liverpool linked Lautaro Martinez has broken off new contract talks with Inter Milan.
Liverpool need a striker
The Reds’ front three have been together for four years now.
They have had no competition during this time, they’ve played week in, week out for four seasons.
This has led to fatigue and opposition defences figuring out the trident.
In the second half of this season we saw the goals dry up.
From January onwards we steadily slipped down the table with chances going begging.
Consequently, the need for a striker has become urgent. We need strength in depth, a lethal touch and competition.
Liverpool target Lautaro Martinez
The Reds have been linked with dozens of strikers in recent months.
90Min has reported that Liverpool are monitoring Lautaro Martinez.
Jürgen Klopp’s side has allegedly asked for updates on the Argentine forward.
This season he netted 17 goals and bagged six assists as Inter Milan bagged an historic league title.
The report from 90Min has stated that the forward should be available for under £70m.
Lautaro Martinez contract talks
According to Sport in Spain, Lautaro Martinez has broken off new contract talks with Inter Milan.
His current deal expires in 2023 and the Italian giants are keen to tie him down to an extension in order to avoid a cheap sale.
If the striker has indeed broken off contract talks then Liverpool should make their interest in Lautaro Martinez concrete.
He would be an ideal upgrade on Roberto Firmino; he is adept at bringing others into play and he pitches in defensively.
At 23-years-old he is the perfect age for an FSG signing.
Hopefully the Reds will be in the mix should the forward be on the move this summer.
