Leicester City want Patson Daka, according to reports. They’ll be a fierce rival for Liverpool.
This comes from the Mirror. They claim Leicester City want Patson Daka this summer.
It’s a signing that makes lots of sense for the Foxes. Brendan Rodgers apparently wants to prepare for a post-Jamie Vardy Leicester team and Daka fits the bill wonderfully.
He’d cost around £17m and is open to a Premier League transfer. Both Liverpool and Chelsea like the look of him, however.
Who is Patson Daka?
Daka is a fairly obscure player but his reputation grows every year. He’s currently at RB Salzburg as, essentially, Erling Haaland’s replacement.
That’s about as tough an act to follow as you could imagine. Daka has done it successfully, though.
He scored 27 goals in 28 games last season as Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga. Daka won the Player of the Year award as a result.
The Zambian is still only 22, as well. There’s a lot of potential here and it’s no real surprise that high-end Premier League clubs are lining up. £17m could prove a bargain.
Leicester or Liverpool?
We’d see Leicester as a big rival for Daka. They can offer him a clear role in the side as Vardy’s successor and without the pressure of a title-challenging club.
In truth, Leicester are the perfect step up for Daka. His playing style means he could slot right in for Vardy, too – Rodgers wouldn’t have to change much.
Liverpool can’t offer that. They don’t even play with a traditional striker, in fact. Jurgen Klopp would have to change the gameplan to fit Daka into the team and the player might not like that.
The pull is that Liverpool is a much bigger club than Leicester, of course, and it’ll depend on what Daka wants for his next team. Does he want to jump right to the top or make a sensible step?
All in all, we see Leicester as a real threat here.
